Well folks, it has been a while since I posted here on my MagicShow2Go blog, to be honest I have just been so busy!
I would like to personally thank all of my customers (old & new) for continuing to make me the #1 choice when booking entertainment in Vancouver BC. This year is shaping up to be another busy one as I continue to provide entertainment for family events, birthday parties, corporate events and company banquets.
Now on a different topic. Many of my customers and clients ask if they can see me perform. Usually it is because they have seen me perform before and want to see me again or sometimes it is just new clients who want to see me perform. As you can appreciate 90% of the shows I do are private shows for customers just like you, however every year I do a select number of public performances that you can come along to if you need that Vancouver entertainer fix (shameless plug!). On the 23rd of August Matthew will be lecturing to magicians at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood California. This lecture will be part of a short lecture run that also includes The Magic Garage in San Fransisco & Hocus-Pocus in Fresno, California.
Matthew is also booked to lecture in England on a 7 date tour that will run from from the 2nd of October to the 18th of October 2009. This tour will include:

In 2010 Matthew will be traveling to Norway, Sweden & Denmark for the last 2 weeks in March for a 10 date lecture tour.

This week we are going to answer another one of your frequently asked questions, “Can I hire a magician to perform in my home and will I have enough space?”
Can I hire a magician to perform in my home?
Absolutely! We provide magicians for every kind of venue. Private homes, community centres, hotels, malls, schools, cruise ships, the list goes on and on!
If you are having a party in your home you can be sure that our magicians will leave your home in the same condition as they found it, no mess! We also provide all of our own equipment (tables etc) so we can just show up and do the show.
Do your require much space?
No! We have performances for every venue size. Whether you live in a small apartment or you are having an event in the largest banquet room we can cater to your needs!
Do you perform for small birthday parties?
We do it all! Children’s birthday parties, corporate events, weddings, trade shows, private parties and so much more! We have different prices and packages for different events.
My name is Matthew & MagicShow2Go is my company. It’s a company I have been building for over 15 years. During that time I have always taken great pride in the fact that I have NEVER missed a single show. Here at MagicShow2Go we provide shows right from the smallest children’s birthday party in your home through to the largest corporate event. Now to the matter at hand. I have blogged on this subject more than once but last week one of my customers got the unfortunate answer first hand, let me explain.
I was out for the morning shopping with my wife, after that we planned to go for a walk before I started my busy day of shows. I got a call at about 11:30am from a very desperate parent asking me if I could do a show last minute. I asked the parent “When?” at which point he replied “NOW!”.
To cut a long story short, it turns out he had hired a performer to perform at his daughters birthday party. The performer showed up, felt the performance would not work or be suitable and left without doing a show. Not only did the performer leave but now he had children and guests, an hour break in the party and NO performer! Can you imagine?
It turns out that I was able to squeeze the party in before my other shows. I raced to get there, did a great job and every one was very very happy. When I asked my customer why they had gone with this performer in the first place they replied “We thought this performer would be more suitable for the young age group & this performer was a little cheaper!”. I left them very happy and now they (and their friends) will be repeat customers in the future. The funny thing, my price was only about $50.00 more than the performer who left and what they got was a professional show from someone who cared about their experience from start to finish.
In todays tough economic times it is more important than ever that we spend our money wisely!

Are all magicians the same and why should I pay more?
There is a common myth that every magician is alike and that in these hard times we should simply go with the cheapest entertainer! It seems that there is a growing trend to pick an entertainer based on price . This may be your first time looking into live entertainment for your special event so let us explain.
Like any service, as the saying goes “You get what you pay for!”. A magicians fee is usually based on his or her experience and years in the performing business. Comparing one magician to the next based on price would be like comparing apples to oranges. You want to make sure that you are hiring a professional, the last thing you want is children running all over your house after 10 minutes because they are not interested in the show or your clients getting up at your next company function and leaving because the magicians jokes are in bad taste.
So how do I know that I am getting a professional?
Call different magic companies to get an idea of price first! Usually the top three prices will be from the professionals & they are the ones you want to hire. To give you a good idea, a professionals price on something like a birthday party will generally only be $25 to $50 more. Now isn’t it worth paying that bit extra for piece of mind! After that visit the performers website. Look for videos, testimonials & descriptions of the show, after all the show is the service you are paying for. Finally don’t be scared to give the performer a call, speaking with someone is always the best way to get a good feeling about them. If you base your decision on your gut instinct you can never go wrong!
